Whenever I photograph someone for this project I ask them who they think I should reach out to next. So many people suggested Nina and her Raku firing.

We waited a while for the right day, and it came in the midst of an extremely busy time for my family but we had to take the opportunity. @made_by_meggy and our newborn joined for the day to watch Nina create magic with fire, ceramics, horse hair and wood shavings.

It’s a very transformative experience to witness. These pristine white pots are super heated, pushed to their limits with the surface intentionally cracking to create beautiful lines. Engulfed in flames by combustibles to give it colour and meticulously laid horsehair singed to the outside to give them these patterns that almost look like fountain pen strokes. The final result is a true work of art.

Thank you Nina for trusting me and allowing me to capture something that you’ve poured so much devotion and energy into.
